Biography

Fidel Acevedo has been an Austin, Travis County resident since 1969. Fidel has been married for 44 years to Maria Acevedo. They have three adult children and six grandchildren. Fidel was born in Levelland and raised in New Braunfels, Texas.


This native Texan also served five years active duty in the United States Army, during the Vietnam era as a combat medic. Fidel served 15 years in the Texas Army National Guard, retiring as Sergeant First Class. While in the army, Fidel was an instructor for basic first aid classes and also was in charge of running a dispensary.


Between 1966 abd 1968, Fidel worked for Boeing in Seattle, WA, and in 1969 he started a career in IBM and retired 27 years later as a Facility Engineering Installation Coordinator.

Activism

Fidel is a longtime advocate for quality living standards and responsive political representation for the citizens of Austin and Travis County. Fidel, also known as "Ace", has been a political activist since 1970.
He has actively participated in numerous grassroots campaigns related to state and loca level issues. His dedication to the citizens of Austin and Travis County earned him the position of Election Judge for 10 years and as Precinct Chair more than 10 years.


Ace's commitment to the needs of the people and the importance of responsive government has also earned him a position as county delegate for the Travis County Democratic Convention and as a state delegate to the 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 Texas State Democratic Convention. He also attended the 2004 Democratic National Convention held Boston.


In 2006 and 2008, he was a member of State Executive Committee 2006.
Fidel is a Co-Chair for the Progressive Hispanic Delegation (PHD's) at the State Convention 2004 to 2008.
